Using the Drawing Tool

The Drawing Tool allows you to create detailed property diagrams, annotate inspections, and capture satellite imagery with precise measurements — all within the proposal workflow. Drawings are saved directly to proposals and included in generated PDFs.

Opening the Drawing Tool

Click a drawing block inside a proposal to open the Drawing Tool.

The tool opens in a full-screen modal. Each drawing:

  • Saves automatically as you work

  • Generates a preview image for the proposal PDF

The Toolbar

The toolbar runs across the top of the canvas. On smaller screens, some tools move into the overflow menu (three-dot icon in the top-right corner).

Insert Symbol

Icon: Grid

Open the symbol picker to insert pest control symbols such as:

  • Entry points

  • Treatment zones

  • Activity markers

Features:

  • Click and drag to position symbols

  • Double-click a symbol in the panel to lock it for repeated placement

  • Click the lock icon again to unlock

Upload Photo

Icon: Camera Plus

Upload a photo from your device.

  • Images are automatically resized and compressed

  • Photos can be repositioned and scaled on the canvas

Media Library

Icon: Media Hub

Insert photos from your company’s media library. This is useful for reusing property photos or reference images across proposals.

Findings

Icon: Document Search

Insert visual symbols tied directly to proposal findings.

  • Findings appear as labeled icons

  • Organized by section

  • Only available if the proposal template includes a findings section

Google Maps

Icon: Map Pin

Open the Google Maps tool in a full-screen overlay to:

  • Capture satellite imagery

  • Draw measurement sections

  • Import the result into your drawing

Line Measurement

Icon: Ruler

Toggle measurement labels on arrow and line shapes.

When enabled:

  • Lines display measured length in feet

  • Default scale: 5 ft per grid square

  • Scale setting is saved between sessions

Undo / Redo

Icon: Undo / Redo arrows

  • Undo: Ctrl + Z

  • Redo: Ctrl + Shift + Z

On smaller screens, these controls appear in the overflow menu.

Settings

Icon: Gear

Opens a settings panel with:

  • Theme — Light or Dark mode (preference is saved)

  • Display Count — Show or hide count badges on duplicate symbols

Revision History

Icon: Clock

View locally saved drawing snapshots.

Each revision includes:

  • Timestamp

  • File size

You can:

  • Restore a previous version

  • Clear all revisions

Revisions are stored in your browser and persist between sessions.

Reset Canvas

Icon: Refresh

Clears the entire drawing after confirmation.

This action cannot be undone once confirmed.

More Options (Overflow Menu)

Icon: Three vertical dots

On smaller screens, Settings, Revision History, and Reset Canvas move into this menu.

Drawing on the Canvas

The canvas is powered by tldraw and supports the following shapes:

  • Arrow / Line — Dimension lines (supports measurement labels)

  • Freehand Draw — Sketch-style annotations

  • Rectangle — Room or zone outlines

  • Ellipse — Circular areas

  • Text — Labels and notes

  • Image — Photos and symbols

Colors and Styles

When a shape is selected, you can customize:

  • Color (12 preset options)

  • Dash style (solid, dashed, dotted, hand-drawn)

  • Stroke size (small to extra large)

  • Fill (solid, semi-transparent, or outline only)

  • Font (sans, serif, monospaced for text)

  • Text alignment (left, center, right)

Google Maps Tool

The Google Maps tool opens a full-screen satellite view centered on the proposal’s property address.

It supports:

  • Capturing satellite images

  • Drawing measured sections

Searching for an Address

Use the search bar at the top to:

  • Type and autocomplete addresses

  • Re-center and zoom the map

Map Toolbar Controls

  • Measure Tool (Ruler) — Draw polygon measurement sections

  • Load Default Outline — Load a pre-calculated property outline

  • My Location (GPS) — Center map on your current location

  • Toggle Marker — Show or hide address marker

  • Toggle Map Labels — Show or hide street labels

  • Undo — Remove last placed point

  • Redo — Restore last removed point

  • Clear All — Remove all completed measurement sections

Drawing Measurement Sections

  1. Click Measure Tool to enter drawing mode.

  2. Click to place points outlining an area.

  3. Each segment displays its length in feet.

  4. Click the green Complete button to close the shape.

    • The shape fills with color

    • Displays total area (sq ft) and perimeter (linear ft)

  5. Start drawing additional sections as needed.

  6. Click a completed section to edit it.

Each section is tracked independently.

Section Colors

Choose from preset colors:

  • Red

  • Blue

  • Green

  • Yellow

  • Purple

  • Orange

  • Brown

  • Black

The selected color applies to both outline and fill.

Floating Action Buttons (While Drawing)

  • Color Palette — Change section color

  • Label Toggle — Show or hide measurement labels

  • Invert Colors — Adjust label visibility against satellite background

  • Delete (Red) — Remove current measurement

  • Complete (Green) — Save current section

Total Measurements Display

Displayed at the bottom-right of the map:

  • Total Ln. Ft. — Combined perimeter

  • Total Sq. Ft. — Combined area

Click either value to copy it to your clipboard.

Exporting Back to the Drawing

After measuring, choose one of two export options:

Capture Map Image

  • Takes a screenshot of the satellite view

  • Opens a crop editor

  • Inserts as an image layer

Capture Measurement Lines

  • Converts completed sections into editable line shapes

  • Measurement labels are applied

  • Fully scalable and editable on the canvas

  • Only one shape can be imported at a time

If an active measurement exists, the export button defaults to Capture Measurement Lines. You can toggle between modes using the swap icon.

Map Data Persistence

Measurement sections are saved to your browser session and tied to the specific drawing. If you close and reopen the map tool while working on the same drawing, completed sections are restored automatically.

Saving and Preview

When finished, click Save.

The tool:

  • Generates a preview image

  • Displays a confirmation dialog

  • Stores the drawing with the proposal

  • Includes the drawing in the generated PDF

Auto-Save

The Drawing Tool automatically saves your progress locally while you work, indicated by a brief “Saved” confirmation.

Note:

  • This auto-save applies only to the drawing.

  • You must still save the proposal separately when finished.
