Purpose of Categories
The Categories feature helps organize drawing symbols and service plans into manageable groups, making it easier to structure and maintain your resources. This guide covers how to create, manage, and enforce rules for category usage.
Category Groups
There are two category groups:
Service Plan
Drawing Symbol
Each category must belong to one of these groups and is used to classify related resources accordingly.
Creating a Category
When adding a new category, the following are required:
Name: A unique, descriptive name (must be unique within its group).
Description: A short explanation of the category’s purpose.
Category Group: Choose either "Service Plan" or "Drawing Symbol."
Category Rules
Uniqueness: Category names must be unique within each group (e.g., two “Exterior” categories are allowed only if they’re in separate groups).
Deletion: Categories in use by a drawing symbol or service plan cannot be deleted. Reassign or remove them first.
Group Changes: You cannot change a category's group if it’s already in use. This prevents data conflicts.
Soft Deletion
Deleting a category triggers a soft delete, which hides the category from the UI but preserves it in the backend.
Key points:
Hidden from view: Soft-deleted categories are invisible in the interface and search.
Not reused: Creating a new category after deletion generates a new record; the old one remains archived.
Restoration: Soft-deleted categories can sometimes be restored. Contact your system administrator or support.
Data protection: Soft deletion maintains system integrity and avoids disruptions to active resources.
