Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Learn how to enable, use, and manage two-factor authentication in Smarter Launch

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Smarter Launch account. When enabled, you will need to enter a one-time code from an authenticator app each time you log in, in addition to your password.

Note: 2FA is only available for accounts that use email and password to log in. If you sign in exclusively with Google or Microsoft, 2FA is managed by your social login provider.

Enabling 2FA

Navigate to Account Settings > Security Preferences and toggle on Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

A setup wizard will appear with a QR code. Open your preferred authenticator app and scan the code:

  1. Google Authenticator

  2. Microsoft Authenticator

  3. Authy

  4. 1Password

If you cannot scan the QR code, enter the key manually in your authenticator app and type in the secret key displayed on screen.

Enter the 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app to confirm setup. Codes rotate every 30 seconds, so use the current one displayed.

After confirming, you will receive 8 one-time recovery codes. Store these somewhere safe — you will need them if you ever lose access to your authenticator app.

You can:

  • Copy all codes to your clipboard

  • Download them as a .txt file

  • Print them for safekeeping

Click I've Secured my Recovery Codes to finish setup.

Logging In with 2FA

After entering your email and password, you will be prompted to enter your 2FA code:

  1. Open your authenticator app and enter the current 6-digit code.

  2. If you do not have access to your app, click Send Code via Email to receive a one-time code by email instead.

  3. If you have lost access to both, click Use Recovery Code and enter one of your saved 8-character recovery codes. Each recovery code can only be used once.

Managing Recovery Codes

To view or regenerate your recovery codes, go to Account Settings > Security Preferences. You will need to confirm your password before new codes are issued. Regenerating codes invalidates all previously issued codes.

Disabling 2FA

To turn off 2FA:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Security Preferences and toggle off Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

  2. Enter your account password to confirm your identity.

  3. Check your email for a 6-digit verification code and enter it in the prompt.

  4. 2FA will be disabled and you will receive a confirmation email.

If you do not receive the email verification code, click Resend (available after a 30-second cooldown).

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I lose my phone?

Use one of your saved recovery codes to log in. If you have run out of recovery codes, contact your account administrator or Smarter Launch support.

My code is not working — what should I do?

Authenticator codes are time-sensitive. Make sure your phone's clock is set to automatic/sync with network time. After 5 failed attempts, your account will be temporarily locked for 15 minutes as a security precaution.

Can I use 2FA if I log in with Google or Microsoft?

No — 2FA within Smarter Launch requires an email and password login. Social login accounts use the security controls provided by Google or Microsoft. If you connect a social account to an existing email/password account that has 2FA enabled, 2FA will be automatically disabled.

How many recovery codes do I get?

You receive 8 recovery codes when you first set up 2FA. Each code is single-use. You can regenerate a fresh set of 8 codes at any time from your Security Preferences, which will invalidate any previously issued codes.
